We present an overview of the association between micronutrients (primarily vitamins and minerals) and their most prominent sources. The data set reveals the list of prominent micronutrients found in various foods, and in various classes of food. We also present an overview of the type of dietary restrictions practiced in major religions. There are two major types of dietary restrictions: 1) dietary prohibitions, in which individual foods or food combinations are banned; and 2) time-restricted eating. We consider the concept of religion in a very broad sense, including not only the well-known traditional theistic traditions, but also modern secular belief systems about food such as veganism or the carnivore diet. We consider the nutritional risks associated with adherence to a traditional or modern religion. By doing so, we hope to prepare healthcare practitioners and the general public for adverse health impacts associated with religious observances.
